Catawba College announced an 11-game football schedule this week.
The Indians will be road warriors during the early part of the season, playing their first three games — and four of the first five — in visiting stadiums. Catawba finishes the year with four home games out of its last six.
This will be year two of the Tyler Haines coaching era. Catawba posted a respectable 5-6 record a year ago in his debut, winning two of its last three games. The Indians were 1-10 in 2022.
“We look forward to another great season of Catawba Indians Football!” Coach Haines said in a release. “Our program is excited to represent our community, our alumni and Catawba College on Saturdays in Shuford Stadium! We will see you there!”
The season begins Saturday, Sept. 7 with a trip to FCS Davidson under the lights (7 p.m. kick). The Indians will be the first team to face the Wildcats in their new stadium.
From there, Catawba travels to Shaw (Sept. 14) and then kicks off South Atlantic Conference play at UVA Wise (Sept. 21).
There are no byes on the Indians’ schedule. Catawba will play Carson-Newman, Limestone, Newberry, defending SAC champion Lenoir-Rhyne and Mars Hill at home. Other SAC road games include trips to league football newcomer Anderson, Wingate and Barton. Newberry will be this year’s homecoming opponent on Oct. 19. Senior Day will be Nov. 16 against Mars Hill.
All of Catawba’s home games are scheduled to start at 6 p.m. FloSports will provide streaming coverage of each SAC contest.
Haines’ team began spring workouts this week. Catawba’s spring game will be Friday, April 5 at 7 p.m.
