MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Chowan Football team gave nationally-ranked Valdosta State a handful in Gulf South Conference action on Saturday afternoon before falling 51-36 late.

Chowan led three times in the contest including midway through the third quarter. Valdosta State scored 20 unanswered points in the final 20:05 of play.
Rashad McKee posted 329 yards passing and four touchdowns to go with 52 yards rushing and a touchdown.
Deven Franklin hauled in six catches for 137 yards and two scores. Tyree Holloway posted three catches for 78 yards and a touchdown, while Noah Toster posted six receptions for 75 yards and a score.
D’Armani Ridley led the team with seven tackles, while Nic Wilson had six tackles and an interception.
Chowan’s special teams had three punts with bad snaps leading to short fields for the Blazers. Valdosta State also blocked a field goal.
Chowan dominated the time of possession 38:43-21:17. Both teams had multiple plays of 40+ yards, with Valdosta State edging the Hawks 4-3 in that category.
UP NEXT
Chowan hosts North Greenville on Saturday, October 7 for Homecoming. It will be the first meeting between these two programs since the Junior College era. Kick-off is slated for 1pm.
