North Carolina’s lone junior college football program has posted its 2023 schedule.
Louisburg College will play exhibition games against in-state Division III opponents Methodist and Guilford at the end of August before launching into its regular season Sept. 3.
The Hurricanes compete in Region X of the NJCAA but are the only region school to offer football. That means an independent schedule with games against schools from South Carolina, Georgia, Maryland, Virginia, New York, Pennsylvania and Ohio.
Louisburg will play its first three regular season games on the road: at Christopher Newport University JV (Va.) on Sunday, Sept. 3, at Lackawanna College (Pa.) on Sept. 9 and at Hocking College (Ohio) on Sept. 16.
The home opener is Sept. 23 against Jireh Prep from Indian Trial, NC. Maryland Prep will visit Sept. 30.
The ‘Canes will play three games in October: at Georgia Military College on Oct. 7, at home against Monroe College (NY) on Oct. 14 and home against Myrtle Beach Collegiate on Oct. 28.
The final game on the schedule is at Nassau Community College (NY) on Nov. 4.
Quinderra Spellman, a long-time assistant coach at Division III NC Wesleyan, is the Hurricanes’ head coach. The ‘Canes finished 5-3 last season.
“My coaching philosophy is that football is merely an extension of the classroom,” Spellman said upon arriving at Louisburg. “My goal is to make football the most positive and influential experience that our players will have during their collegiate years. As the Head Football Coach, I want to do everything possible to help our players reach their full potential, not only as student-athletes but as young men.”
