Notes: An obvious pick for 2023 Division II preseason All-America honors after two stellar years as Barton’s primary rusher. Thus far, he’s been named second-team All-America by both Lindy’s Sports and The CFB Network …

Named a 2022 Don Hansen NCAA Division II honorable mention Football All-American following a campaign where he rushed for 1,632 yards – fifth best among D2 players. He averaged 148.4 yards per game and scored 15 touchdowns.

He twice earned South Atlantic Conference Offensive Player of the Week honors and finished the season on the 2022 First-Team All-SAC Piedmont Division honors list. He led the conference in rushing yardage.

Began the ’22 campaign on a monster note, rushing for 178 yards and a score at Chowan (the eventual CIAA runners-up). He finished the year on a monster note as well, gaining 752 yards across the last three games, with 10 touchdowns. His career-high performance came Oct. 29 against Catawba, where he galloped for 302 yards and four TDs. He reached the end zone five times against Erskine in the season finale …

Comes into the 2023 season with 3,755 career rushing yards and 33 touchdowns. Terrell was second in the nation in D2 in rushing in 2021, finishing with 1,843 yards. He’s had 80-plus yard runs in both 2021 and 2022. He’s averaging 5.4 yards per carry for his career.

Barton, which revived its football program in 2020 after being dormant for 70 years, will begin the new season Thursday, Aug. 31 at home against Chowan. The Bulldogs edged the Hawks a year ago in the opener, helped in large part by Terrell’s rushing prowess.
