Livingstone football playing seven home games this season

Blue Bears will open with three straight in Salisbury; Homecoming is Oct. 12 against Fayetteville State

Livingstone’s football team will get the luxury of opening with three straight home games this season and playing in front of the home faithful at Alumni Memorial Stadium seven times in all.

The CIAA school from Salisbury unveiled its schedule this week, and the 2024 slate features a week zero game, three non-conference contests and a homecoming date Oct. 12 against Fayetteville State.

Livingstone is coming off a 4-6 season, with a competitive 4-4 record in CIAA play.

The Blue Bears start their ’24 run at home on Saturday, Aug. 31 against the University of Charleston (WV) from the Mountain East Conference. Charleston went 10-2 a year ago.

The next two Saturdays, Livingstone will welcome Virginia University of Lynchburg (Sept. 7) and Allen University from South Carolina (Sept. 14).

VUL played in the CIAA back in the 1920s and ’50s, and is currently a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association. The Dragons finished 2-9 a year ago.

Allen University plays in the Division II SIAC. The Yellow Jackets posted a 7-3 mark in 2023.

From there, Livingstone launches into CIAA play. The Bears will travel to Bowie State, Lincoln and Shaw this year, while playing home contests against Elizabeth City State, Fayetteville State, Winston-Salem State and Johnson C. Smith. As with the beginning of the season, Livingstone will enjoy another stretch of three straight home games in October.

The Blue Bears do not play crosstown rival Catawba this season. The two Salisbury neighbors faced off in 2022 and 2023.
