Fresh off a 24-player haul of mostly North Carolina and South Carolina signees, St. Andrews University has released its 2023 football schedule.
The Knights, who compete at the NAIA level in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, will play six games at home this season, including a stretch of four straight contests on friendly turf in October and early November.
SAU kicks off Saturday, Aug. 26 at home against Webber, then will entertain Lindsey Wilson College the following Saturday, Sept. 2. After four road trips, the Knights will get to spend four consecutive Saturdays in Laurinburg, hosting Reinhardt, Kentucky Christian, Cumberlands and University of Pikeville.
Robert Curtin returns for his second season as St. Andrews head coach. The Knights finished 1-10 a year ago, 1-4 in league play. There is as sense within the program that things are on a major upswing. St. Andrews started playing football at the NAIA level in 2017.
Of the new signees, 19 are incoming freshman, the school reports. The other five are transfers. Thirteen players hail from North Carolina, including two who played at Chowan University a year ago. Another transfers in from Louisiana-Monroe.
“We are excited for what these student athletes will bring both to our university and our football team,'” Coach Curtin said in a release in February. “This initial recruiting class is filled with high character athletes who will help to elevate our program and create a winning culture.”
St. Andrews spring game will be April 22 at 10 a.m.
