July 12, 2025 Update
The high school football season is still more than a month away but we had a summer version of “Friday Night (Recruiting) Lights” on July 12. Over the course of a couple of hours, in separate ceremonies, elite North Carolina recruits Samari Matthews (Texas), Nick Reddish (Notre Dame) and JB Shabazz (Tennessee) announced their commitments to high-profile programs.

July 8, 2025 Update
NC State earned commitments from three in-state players over the course of 10 days – long snapper Taylon Tranel (Union Pines HS), safety D’Various Surratt (Crest HS) and receiver/quarterback Aiden Smalls (Clayton HS → flip from Rice University). Duke also added a Crest High defensive back, Lyrik Pettis on July 1.
June 23, 2025 Update
The last few weekends of official visits have yielded much fruit for North Carolina 2026 prospects. East Carolina (Rai’shawn Elmore, Ja’Vaughn Hargett, Terande Spencer and Preston Broadway), NC State (Tyreek Copper) and Appalachian State (Eisa Evans and Jarvis Potts) each landed in-state commitments. A pair of players (Dallas Brannon and Henry Hulbert) picked opposite sides of the Army-Navy rivalry. James Madison (Kyle Bynes and Christopher Bispham) and Delaware State (Jonathan Manley and Kelson Tate) each added a pair of NC standouts.
June 12, 2025 Update
Some big names have been flying off the board since Memorial Day. Weddington senior D-lineman Aiden Harris (the No. 6 player in our 2026 statewide composite rankings) committed to South Carolina along with his brother Andrew Harris (No. 16) on June 8. Hickory Ridge edge rusher Jace McCollum (No. 30 in NC) announced his commitment to Vanderbilt on June 11.
Clemson landed OL Leo Delaney from Providence Day on June 3. Rolesville brothers Zavion and Jayden Griffin-Haynes announced for North Carolina on June 5.
May 24, 2025 Update
Boston College under coach Bill O’Brien has been making in-roads in our state. A second 2026 prospect has committed to the Eagles, Kings Mountain tight end William “Tex” Vaughn. Read more about the all-conference blocker/pass-catcher HERE.
May 12, 2025 Update
Hickory High, a powerhouse 3A program in recent years, has two 2026 players already committed to in-state programs. Rahshad Swinton, a standout two-way lineman, pledged to Campbell on May 11. He joins fellow Hickory junior Dorrian Medley (safety), who committed to Appalachian State in mid-April.
April 18, 2025 Update
Four-star wide receiver Gordon Sellars from (Charlotte) Providence Day announced his commitment to Clemson. Sellars had North Carolina A&T among his top six (which also included Georgia, Ohio State, Michigan and South Carolina).

April 10, 2025 Update
Notre Dame picked up its second and third commitment from the Old North State in April, earning pledges from edge rushers Rodney Dunham (Charlotte | Myers Park HS) and Ebenezer Ewetade (Garner | South Garner HS). The Fighting Irish also received a commitment from linebacker Thomas Davis (Matthews | Weddington HS).
