📌 Consensus Rankings Methodology
Our consensus rankings are built using a simple formula. We chart in-state rankings released publicly by 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN, then we take an average of the three.
If a player is unranked on a service list, we assign them the last listed rank + 1 for that service. Everyone that is mentioned by at least one rankings service makes our consensus list.
📊 July 2026 Takeaways: 20 new players enter list, 62 now committed
The summer recruiting calendar reshaped North Carolina’s Class of 2027. Following a busy stretch of camps, official visits and commitment announcements, our consensus rankings expanded from 53 players in May to 71 entering July (20 new players joined, two dropped out).
Just as significant, 62 of those 71 ranked prospects have now announced college commitments, marking a clear shift from the frenzy of recruiting battles to tracking player development heading into the high school season.
While much of the movement occurred deeper in the rankings, the very top of the board also saw a notable change. East Lincoln tight end Jaxon Dollar joined Hough cornerback Joshua Dobson as consensus co-No. 1 prospects after the latest updates from 247Sports, Rivals and ESPN.
Several new names also cracked the rankings for the first time, highlighting the growing national attention on North Carolina’s senior class. With the high school season set to begin in just a few weeks, expect the next wave of movement to come from Friday night performances, late evaluations and the occasional recruiting flip as National Signing Day draws closer.

📊 May 2026 Takeaways: Top Four Unchanged, Eight New Players Join
The top of the 2027 North Carolina high school football prospect rankings remains steady, with Joshua Dobson, Jaxon Dollar, Xavier Hasan and Rashad Streets holding the first four spots in the latest NC Football News composite.
The biggest movement comes just behind them, where Miami commit Aroson Randle Jr. climbed three spots to No. 5 and Virginia Tech commit Xavier Perkins made the biggest jump in the rankings, rising 10 spots to No. 16.
Much of the movement in the back half of the list comes from new players entering the composite. Eight prospects joined the updated rankings, pushing several previously ranked players down even if their individual standing with the major recruiting services did not dramatically change.

📊 Early Takeaways from the 2027 Rankings (Late Winter 2026)
We plan to track the Class of 2027 through spring and summer, the upcoming season and through the two signing periods in December 2026 and early February 2027.
Here are a few first impressions from our rankings list as of March 1, 2026.:
- Clear No. 1: Cornerback Joshua Dobson (Hough HS), is the consensus No. 1 pick across all three major recruiting services after transferring into the state from South Carolina’s Catawba Ridge High. He’ll play for Hough High, the defending 8A state champs.
- Tight race at the top: Just 1.67 average points separate the No. 2 and No. 4 spots, signaling a competitive early tier.
- Defensive strength: EDGE, DL, LB and DB prospects dominate the Top 20.
- Strength in numbers: Schools like Providence Day, Millbrook, Rolesville and Southern Durham have multiple prospects ranked by the national outlets.
- In-state commits already active: Heading into March, 10 prospects from our rankings had already made commitments, including two to NC State, Wake Forest and Notre Dame.
- Quarterback watch: The QB group currently sits outside the Top 30 consensus tier, but that could shift after junior film evaluation season.
