Three-star quarterback Talon Fisher from Fairfield, Ohio, reopened his football recruitment with this social media message this past Saturday, Aug. 3:

“Looking for a new home! I can be anywhere in the country by Monday!”

Gardner-Webb quickly swept in, and Fisher committed to the Runnin’ Bulldogs on Tuesday afternoon.

GWU will be getting a stellar prospect and one of Ohio’s top dual-threat signal callers. Fisher, from the Class of 2024, was a four-year starter for Fairfield High School, located about 30 minutes north of Cincinnati.

Fisher (6-2, 210) earned Greater Miami Conference offensive player of the year honors following his senior season. The dual-threat quarterback passed for 1,336 yards and 10 touchdowns, while rushing for 1,292 yards and 17 more scores. He was twice named first-team All-GMC by league coaches.

Fisher accounted for 72 total touchdowns (passing and running) over the course of his four-year prep career. He threw for 4,504 yards — breaking Fairfield’s school record — and rushed for another 3,408.

247Sports tabbed Fisher as a 3-star prospect. Rivals listed him as a 2-star dual-threat QB. Fisher originally committed to Navy last summer but decommitted recently for personal reasons. During his initial recruiting, he reported offers from Miami (OH), Toledo, Army, Air Force, Buffalo, UMass, James Madison, Furman and Dartmouth.

New Gardner-Webb coach Cris Reisert may have used his Ohio roots to grab Fisher after he reopened his recruiting this week. Reisert served as Tiffin University’s coach in northern Ohio from 2019 until being named the Bulldogs’ new coach over the winter.

Gardner-Webb currently has four quarterbacks on its 2024 roster aside from Fisher. Graduate Ren Heffley, who transferred in from Middle Tennessee, is the anticipated starter when the Bulldogs kick off against Wofford in a few weeks.

The GWU quarterback room also includes sophomore Justin Rocquemore from Belmont (Stuart Cramer HS), redshirt freshman Lukas Kachilo from Mills River (West Henderson) and Ben Mauney from Shelby (Burns HS).

Fisher said Tuesday afternoon that Gardner-Webb may use him on defense but the coaching staff “is leaving all options open.”

“Excited to get there and make an impact,” he said.
