ACC announces game times, TV slots; Wolfpack will play twice on Friday nights

Wake Forest will launch new season with first game on ACC Network

The Atlantic Coast Conference has slotted a number of 2023 games into its TV schedule, including some prime-time opportunities for its North Carolina schools.

Wake Forest will be the first ACC team to take the field and appear on the ACC Network. The Deacons, winners of eight games a year ago, host Elon on Thursday, Aug. 31 at 7 p.m.

NC State also will play Aug. 31, visiting Connecticut. The Wolfpack and Huskies’ showdown will appear on CBS Sports Network, starting at 7:30.

The North Carolina-South Carolina match-up in the Duke’s Mayo Kickoff Classic in Charlotte will fill the 7:30 p.m. slot on ABC on Saturday, Sept. 2. All eyes will be on Duke on Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 4. The Blue Devils host Clemson in the final game of the college football weekend, starting at 8 p.m. on ESPN.

Wake Forest, NC State, North Carolina and Duke all will play at home in Week 2.

Wake again launches the ACC lineup, playing Vanderbilt in a rare 11 a.m. kickoff on ACC Network. The Wolfpack draws Notre Dame for its home opener. That game kicks at noon on ABC. UNC entertains Appalachian State at 5:15 p.m. as the third leg of an ACC Network quadruple-header. Duke plays Lafayette at 6 p.m., with that game being assigned to ACCNX/ESPN+.

NC State will play on back-to-back Friday nights at the end of September. Both games – at Virginia on Sept. 22 and at home against Louisville on Sept. 29 – will appear on the main ESPN network. The Wake Forest-Duke rivalry will renew on the first Friday in November, also on ESPN.

The ACC Championship game, which will pit the top two finishers in the league standings (not division champs as in years past), will be Saturday, Dec. 2 at 8 p.m. on ABC.

The league has tie-ins with as many as 11 bowl games, including the Duke’s Mayo Bowl in Charlotte (ACC vs. SEC). The ACC also maintains ties with the bowl game in Orlando, which this year will be known as the Pop-Tarts Bowl (formerly the Cheez-It Bowl).
