The ACC has been dripping out its 2024 football schedule this week. On Monday, the league released the complete week one slate. On Tuesday, the ACC unveiled all of the Thursday and Friday games involving its 17 member schools.
Here is what we know so far, with the complete schedule release coming Wednesday during a two-hour ACC Huddle: 2024 Football Schedule Release Show from 5-7 p.m. on ACC Network:
No Saturday season openers for Big Four
All four of North Carolina’s ACC schools — NC State, North Carolina, Wake Forest and Duke — will kick off the season on either Thursday or Friday.
The Wolfpack will host Western Carolina, the Tar Heels will visit Minnesota and the Demon Deacons will entertain North Carolina A&T on Thursday, Aug. 29 (kickoff times and TV still TBA). The Blue Devils, meanwhile, will start the Manny Diaz coaching era on Friday, Aug. 30 against visiting Elon.
Florida State at Duke | Friday, Oct. 18
Last season, NC State played twice on Friday nights, once at Virginia and once at home against Louisville. This season, it will be the Blue Devils who can circle two Friday dates — both in the friendly confines of Wallace Wade Stadium.
Duke pushed Florida State to the limit this past season before fading in the fourth quarter. The Seminoles went on to finish 13-0 in the regular season, though were left out of the College Football Playoff. Will either team be in the playoff hunt in mid-October.
California at Wake Forest | Friday, Nov. 8
The Demon Deacons will host one of the newest members of the conference in a Friday showdown. Wake and Cal have never met in football (the Deacs are 1-1 against Stanford and have never faced SMU, the other two ACC newcomers).
NC State at Georgia Tech | Thursday, Nov. 21
The Pack and Yellow Jackets have not met since 2020, when State won at home 23-13. NCSU last went to Atlanta in November 2019, falling in a Thursday night showdown 28-26.
The two schools have only met five times since 2010, after the ACC went to divisional play (which no longer exists). NCSU is 2-1 all-time in Thursday night games against Georgia Tech.
After week one, ACC teams will appear on Thursday nights only three other times (Boston College at Virginia Tech, Oct. 17, and Syracuse at Pitt, Oct. 24, being the other games in addition to NCSU-Georgia Tech).
The ACC will play an eight-game conference schedule again this season. Without divisions, the two teams with the best win percentages will play in the ACC championship game. Florida State beat Louisville in the ’23 title game.
