What happened last week?

The Mountaineers picked up their third win of the season against a winless Oregon State team 27-23 this past Saturday. Redshirt sophomore quarterback JJ Kohl shined in his debut with 218 passing yards and 2 touchdowns – one through the air and one on the ground.

The team and head coach Dowell Loggains now look ahead to the Panthers and locking in on Sun Belt Conference play for the remainder of the season.

“Now we’ve got another huge road test in front of us,” Loggains said.

App State Key Players

After a great performance against the Beavers, many fans want Kohl to keep the starting spot. With redshirt junior quarterback AJ Swann suffering a MCL tear, Kohl keeping the starting spot is a strong possibility.

As of his Tuesday press conference, Loggains was not sure whether Swann was going to play against the Panthers. Swann was listed as “questionable” on App State’s injury report released Thursday.

Senior running back Rashod Dubinion recorded 98 yards on the ground and a touchdown against Oregon State. This was a down game by his 2025 standards. Dubinion sits in seventh place in the NCAA in rushing yards for the season (611) entering the weekend.

Redshirt sophomore Colton Phares led the team in tackles last week for the third time this season with 10. He also added an interception. Look for him to continue his strong performances.

Placekicker Dominic De Freitas was named Sun Belt Conference Special Teams Player of the Week. The freshman hit field goals from 45 and 49 yards, plus hit three PATs.

Georgia State Key Players

Redshirt senior quarterback TJ Finley found his way to Georgia State after previously playing for LSU, Auburn, Texas State and Western Kentucky. So far this season, Finley has thrown 4 touchdowns and 3 interceptions.

Redshirt senior running back Rashad Amos previously played for South Carolina, Miami (OH) and Ole Miss. This season he has rushed for 195 yards and a touchdown.

Redshirt junior linebacker Josiah Robinson has recorded 40 total tackles on the season. He will likely cause problems in the run game.
