The NC State vs. App State football game at The Rock is back on! It is just going to come a few years later than originally scheduled.
Appalachian State announced Tuesday that it will host NC State at Kidd Brewer Stadium on Sept. 30, 2028. The Wolfpack had been scheduled to come to Boone this coming season, but NCSU canceled that contest last year and replaced the Mountaineers with Virginia as a non-conference foe.
NC State has played Appalachian State six times in its history – but never in Boone. The Wolfpack is 6-0 all-time against the Mountaineers, with the last meeting coming in 2006 (a 23-10 Pack victory).
NC State’s visit to Kidd Brewer will be the fourth by an ACC football team. UNC played at Appalachian State in 2022, winning 63-61 in one of the wildest, most exciting college games ever played in our state.
Miami traveled to App State in 2016, while Wake Forest came to Boone in 2017.
Appalachian State and NC State also will play in Raleigh on Sept. 26, 2026, a game that was already on the schedule.
NC State has filled its non-conference schedule for 2028. The Wolfpack also will play at East Carolina that season, as well as host Campbell and Vanderbilt. Appalachian State still has room for one more non-conference game in 2028. The Mountaineers will host Charlotte and visit Toledo along with the NCSU game.
The next action at Kidd Brewer will be Appalachian State’s “Battle at the Rock” spring game on April 12. The Mountaineers are beginning spring workouts this week, the beginning of the Dowell Loggains head coaching era.
