Appalachian State and Western Carolina will rekindle their Battle for the Old Mountain Jug with a non-conference meeting in 2028. The former SoCon rivals haven’t played in football since 2013, App State’s final year as an FCS school before moving to the FBS and the Sun Belt Conference.
The NC State at Appalachian State game at The Rock is back on! The Wolfpack had been scheduled to come to Boone in 2025 but opted to drop the game for another non-conference opponent. App State announced in March 2025 that NCSU now will play in Boone in September 2028.
