Barton football goes heavy on in-state recruits

Barton College relaunched its football program in 2020 after a 70-year absence, and the Bulldogs have made recruiting in-state players a high priority.

Coach Chip Hester continued that trend with Barton’s latest recruiting class, announced on Tuesday. Barton inked 37 high school players, with 35 of them calling North Carolina home. The other two hail from South Carolina.

The Bulldogs also brought in nine transfers. Five of them played high school football in North Carolina. The transfer list is impressive. Players join the Division II Bulldogs from FBS schools like the University of Virginia, Charlotte and Coastal Carolina, and FCS programs like North Carolina Central, Campbell, Rhode Island and Monmouth.

Barton went 6-5 this past season. The Bulldogs featured one of the top running backs in all of NCAA football, All-American Jordan Terrell, who rushed for more than 1,700 yards and 12 touchdowns.
