Cardinal Gibbons quarterback Gannon Jones, the CAP-6 player of the year in 2024, has committed to Wake Forest, the rising senior announced on social media Thursday.

The commitment came just a few days after Wake Forest became the first Power Four school to offer him. Jones, who attended Wake’s junior day on March 29, boasts a 4.1 GPA and a 22-3 overall record as a starter at the Raleigh parochial school.

Jones completed 201 of 294 passes last season (68.4 percent) for 3,194 yards and 35 touchdowns. He threw just five interceptions. Jones also rushed for 539 yards and nine more TDs.

Through two seasons, Jones has thrown 64 touchdown passes and just eight interceptions.

Cardinal Gibbons finished 12-2 last season, advancing to the 4A East Regional final before falling to Rolesville in a thriller, 38-31.

“(Jones) is perhaps the most underrated QB in the state of North Carolina,” said Tom Lemming, who has been evaluating high school football talent nationally for decades. “He shows excellent footwork, good anticipation, can make all the throws and run himself out of trouble.”

247Sports lists Jones as a three-star prospect and the No. 58 player in the state of North Carolina. He becomes Wake Forest’s second known 2026 commitment and the first from in-state. He has an official visit planned to Wake on June 6.

“I want to thank God, my family, coaches, and everyone who has helped me get to this point,” Jones wrote on X. “Honored and blessed to say I’m fully committed to Wake Forest University. #GoDeacs

Jones earned a spot on the HighSchoolOT all-state team following the 2024 season. Cardinal Gibbons will shift into the Triangle Six this fall, a split 6A/7A league. The Crusaders open the 2025 campaign at Dudley, a Greensboro area powerhouse.
