The Carolina Cobras, Greensboro’s professional indoor football team, announced Monday that the franchise will suspend operations for the remainder of the 2025 National Arena League (NAL) season due to what it called “significant financial and operational hurdles.”
The Cobras, who play their home games at the Greensboro Coliseum, were 2-4 this season with two regular-season games remaining, including a May 17 matchup at Shreveport.
“It is with heavy hearts that the Carolina Cobras announces that the team will go ‘dormant’ for the remainder of the 2025 National Arena League season,” the team said in a statement posted to its website. “This difficult decision was not made lightly. We want to be fully transparent with our fans and community about why this step is necessary. Today’s statement is meant to acknowledge our current challenges and share our appreciation for the support we’ve received.”
Founded in 2017, the Carolina Cobras quickly made a name for themselves by winning the NAL championship the following season. Over eight seasons, the team has built a loyal fan base in the Triad and beyond.
Despite the shutdown, team officials emphasized that this is not the end of the franchise.
“Despite these challenges, the Carolina Cobras are not finished – far from it,” the statement continued. “We want to make one thing abundantly clear: our commitment to this team and community is unwavering, and this is not the end of the Carolina Cobras. As an organization, we are already hard at work addressing our issues and laying the groundwork for a strong comeback. In the weeks and months ahead, we will keep you updated on our progress. The road to our return will not be easy, but we are optimistic and determined.”
No timeline has been announced for the team’s return, but the organization pledged to keep fans informed in the coming months.
