One of North Carolina’s top dual-threat quarterbacks from the Class of 2025 has announced his commitment to play in Conference USA next season. Khalel Wright, from Charlotte Country Day, pledged for Kennesaw State earlier this month.

Kennesaw State just moved up to the FBS ranks from FCS.

Wright is listed as the No. 12 quarterback and the No. 85 player from the state of North Carolina’s Class of 2025 by Prep Redzone.

Charlotte Country Day struggled to a 4-7 record a year ago, but Wright had a big year individually. He accounted for 24 total touchdowns, passing for 1,406 yards and rushing for another 697.

Over the past two years of playing on varsity, Wright has 2,439 passing yards and 18 TDs. He has rushed for 1,227 yards and 15 more scores, with three career 100-yard rushing efforts.

Wright listed offers from North Carolina Central and Prairie View A&M. Charlotte Country Day coach Drew Witman told the Charlotte Observer that Campbell, Howard, Navy and North Carolina A&T also showed interest.

Charlotte Country Day opens the 2024 season on Friday, Aug. 23 at home against Swaim County.

They Said It: “He’s got enough size to play at the college level. He showed good arm strength but his touch was what impressed me most. Wright will be a name that emerges in the 2025 cycle.” — Greg Smith, Rivals.com national recruiting analyst, after an underclassmen combine last January.
