The Charlotte 49ers have filled out their 2026 slate and added a familiar opponent to future football schedules.
The Niners will play Louisiana from the Sun Belt Conference on Saturday, Sept. 26 at Jerry Richardson Stadium. The Ragin’ Cajuns complete a 2026 non-conference docket that also includes The Citadel (Sept. 5), Ole Miss (away on Sept. 12) and Appalachian State (Sept. 19).
The Charlotte-Louisiana game is part of a home-and-home series that will see the 49ers make a trip to Lafayette, LA in 2032.
Charlotte also recently announced a home-and-home series with Old Dominion, also a Sun Belt school. The Niners will play ODU in Norfolk in 2027, with the Monarchs coming to Charlotte in 2031.
Charlotte and ODU played together in Conference USA in the 2010s when the 49ers first moved up to the FBS level. Old Dominion holds a 4-2 edge in the series, with Charlotte winning in both 2018 and 2019. The last meeting was 2021 with ODU capturing a 28-25 win.
The American Conference is expected to announce the complete 2026 schedule for all 14 of its member schools later this month. Charlotte knows who it will face in league play this season and where. But dates and start times are still TBA.
- Charlotte home conference opponents: ECU, Memphis, Navy, Tulane
- Charlotte away conference opponents: North Texas, Temple, Tulsa, UAB
