It’s becoming a familiar end-of-game script for Fayetteville State’s football team – someone kicking for the win as time expires.

The scene repeated itself for the third time in the last four games on Saturday. Jacob Meneses hit a 40-yard field goal as the clock ticked to zero, lifting the Broncos to a 20-17 triumph over visiting Lincoln (Pa.).

Fayetteville State was burned by a field goal at the buzzer against UNC Pembroke during week one. FSU won the CIAA championship last November, hitting a field goal on the last play against Chowan.

Fayetteville State had to score twice with less than five minutes to play to get its first win of the season and open the CIAA schedule 1-0. Lincoln took a 17-9 lead with a 26-yard field goal from Andre Jandayan with 5:33 left. The Broncos tied the contest 1:01 later on a 46-yard TD play from Joe Owens Jr. to David Baros.

FSU got the ball back and that set the stage for Meneses heroics. He also had a 32-yarder in the first quarter.
