North Carolina Wesleyan’s Christian Drumgoole and Brevard’s Zackary Orr had monster seasons in our state’s Division III college football ranks. The two standouts are runaway leaders in our 2024 D3 Stat Champions categories for wide receivers.

Drumgoole led the state’s D3 contingent in receptions (69) and receiving yards (1,130). The sophomore from Dinwiddie, Va., broke school records and had the state’s most explosive receiving game at any level, hauling in an amazing 18 catches for 277 yards in week three against Ferrum.

Drumgoole followed that up with another 200-yard game, notching 239 yards on 15 receptions in week seven against LaGrange.

Orr led North Carolina D3 pass-catchers with 10 receiving touchdowns. He finished second in receiving yards with 837 and second in yards-per-game with 93.0. Brevard only played nine games this season, so it is reasonable to think Orr could have challenged the 1,000-yard plateau had the Tornados not missed a game due to the hurricane.

Orr, a graduate student from Charleston, S.C., was the only other North Carolina D3 receiver to post a 200-yard receiving game. On the same weekend when Drumgoole was torching Ferrum, Orr made eight catches for 205 yards against Hampden-Sydney.

Reggie Taylor II, a junior from Charlotte (Mountain Island Charter HS), could be the next big-play receiving threat for Brevard. He caught six touchdown passes this past season. Greensboro’s Ja’Shawn Harris had five TD receptions.

Orr earned second-team all-region accolades from D3Football.com at two positions, receiver and kick returner. He is now Brevard’s all-time leader in receptions (123) and receiving yards (1,893).

Drumgoole also was a second-team D3Football.com all-region selection. His 277-yard game against Ferrum put his name in the school record books.
