Davidson football unveiling new home stadium this season

Wildcats will christen state-of-the-art facility on Sept. 7 vs. Catawba

Davidson College football called Richardson Stadium home for a century.

This season, the school will christen the new, state-of-the-art Davidson College Stadium with six home games. The home debut will come Sept. 7 when Catawba visits for an under-the-lights showdown at 7 p.m. Catawba competes at the NCAA Division II level.

Davidson also will play Point (Sept. 14) and conference foes Marist (Oct. 5), Stetson (Oct. 19), Butler (Oct. 26) and Morehead State (Nov. 9) on Field 76 at its new facility. All home games will air on ESPN+ this season.

Road games for Davidson this season include dates at Georgetown (Aug. 31), Presbyterian (Sept. 28), Dayton (Oct. 12), San Diego (Nov. 2) and Valparaiso (Nov. 23).

The Wildcats (7-4 in 2023) compete in the Pioneer Football League, the lone non-scholarship conference in Division I FCS. Davidson has been a perennial conference title contender under coach Scott Abell. The ‘Cats have led FCS in rushing the past four seasons and topped the leaderboard in FCS scoring offense (40.0 points) this past fall.

The Nov. 9 game against Morehead State will serve as senior day for the program.

Spring workouts will start at Davidson on Tuesday, March 19. Practices will be held Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays for five weeks before the Spring Game on Field 76 on April 20 at 4:30 p.m.
