Duke quarterback Maalik Murphy, one of the most prolific passers in our state this season, told ESPN he intends to enter the transfer portal, Pete Thamel reported.
Murphy completed 254-of-421 passes for 2,933 yards. He set a school record with 26 touchdowns, helping Duke forge a 9-3 record in Manny Diaz’s first year as head coach.
Murphy came to Duke in the off-season after spending two seasons at Texas. He had six games this season with three touchdowns. He did throw 12 interceptions, including three each against Miami and Virginia Tech.
Today (Monday, Dec. 9) was the first official day that players could enter their names into the transfer portal for the winter cycle. This doesn’t guarantee that a player transfers. They can withdraw their name at any time. The portal closes December 28.
Murphy is one of the highest profile names from our state’s FBS teams to enter the portal, along with NC State wide receiver KC Concepcion, East Carolina wide receiver Chase Sowell and App State defensive end Santana Hopper.
The North Carolina Sports Network, along with David Glenn, are keeping track of all of the FBS transfer movement in our state. Click HERE for their latest portal updates for Duke, UNC, NC State, Wake Forest, East Carolina, Charlotte and Appalachian State.
