The NCAA revealed its first Division II Super Region rankings on Monday, and three teams from North Carolina find themselves on the list after week eight of the season.

Lenoir-Rhyne (8-0), Mars Hill (6-1) and Fayetteville State (6-2) are among the 10 teams listed in Super Region 2 in the initial reveal.

Today’s list, generated by an NCAA committee and put in alphabetical order by school, isn’t a guarantee of who will make the final bracket in a few weeks but “it helps shine a light on those in contention,” according to the NCAA. Regional rankings will be released two more times before the playoff field is announced.

There are four regions. Super Region 2 includes the South Atlantic Conference, the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association, the Gulf South Conference and the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Association.

Other teams included in the Super Region 2 rankings are Benedict (8-0), Delta State (6-1), Fort Valley State (6-2), Miles (5-1), Valdosta State (5-1), West Florida (6-1) and West Georgia (5-2).

Lenoir-Rhyne will visit Wingate this Saturday, while Mars Hill will host UVA Wise in SAC action. Fayetteville State, riding a six-game win streak after starting 0-2, will travel to Shaw in its attempt to repeat as CIAA champions.

FSU and Wingate made the D2 playoffs a year ago. Wingate won two games in 2022 before losing in the quarterfinals.
