Versatile wide receiver – also a lacrosse standout – presents “match-up nightmare” for opposing defenses
Union Pines wide receiver/athlete Hayne Tobias will be taking his football talents to the Volunteer State for 2026, committing to Chattanooga.
Tobias announced his pledge on X on June 13. He chose the Mocs – who compete in the FCS Southern Conference – over North Carolina A&T, Sacred Heart and Cornell. Coastal Carolina and Lehigh also showed strong interest.
“Hayne Tobias is a true specimen of an athlete,” a Prep RedZone scout wrote earlier this year. “Tobias is a match-up nightmare – too fast and shifty for linebackers and safeties, yet too big and physical for standard-sized corners to handle. With his great hands, impressive speed, and agility for his size, Hayne Tobias stands out as an elite prospect with next-level potential.”
Tobias lined up at fullback/H-back in Union Pines offense but projects as a receiver and/or tight end at the next level. In addition to being a mauler as a blocker, he made 33 catches for 416 yards and six touchdowns a year ago. He has 13 receiving TDs over two seasons with the Vikings. He rushed for a pair of scores on eight carries in 2024.
Tobias is a true two-sport star at Union Pines. He has played varsity lacrosse since his freshman season in 2022-23. He has seen action in 44 varsity games, recording 53 goals and 17 assists.
“First I want to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and my Parents for raising me to be the man I am today and my team and coaches for always being there for me,” Tobias posted on X with his commitment announcement. “Thanks to all the College Coaches who have reached out and believed in me. With that being said I am blessed to be COMMITTED to Chattanooga!!! Go Mocs!!!”
