Hickory High state championship QB chooses Samford

Brady Stober earned 3A title game MVP honors after leading Red Tornadoes to trophy with late TD

Brady Stober, who quarterbacked Hickory High School to a 16-0 record and 3A state championship last season, has committed to Samford.

Stober made the announcement on Twitter/X on Friday.

The rising senior earned state championship game MVP honors after rushing for the winning touchdown in the final minute of a 33-26 victory over Terry Sanford. Stober also earned conference player of the year honors as a junior.

Stober threw for 3,933 yards and a whopping 47 touchdowns in 2023, per MaxPreps statistics. He only tossed four interceptions and completed 70.3 percent of his passes.

Stober has played in 29 games thus far for Hickory over three seasons, compiling nearly 6,000 passing yards and 68 TD passes.

Samford competes the NCAA FCS level in the Southern Conference. Per Stober’s social media, he reported offers from schools like Davidson, Elon, Navy, William & Mary, Mercer, VMI and Charleston Southern.
