Campbell University’s newest 2026 football commitment made headlines off the gridiron this weekend – winning two state titles at the NCHSAA 4A track championships in Greensboro.
Mallard Creek junior Khalil Price, who pledged for the Camels on May 15, ran legs on the Mavericks’ gold-medal 4×200 and 4×400 relay team. Price also earned silver in the individual 400 meters, helping Mallard Creek repeat as boys 4A state champions. His 400 time of 48.05 in the individual event was only 0.5 seconds off the winning pace.
Mallard Creek’s 4×400 team, with Price as the anchor, won by more than four seconds.
Earlier this month, Price captured the 4A West Region title, setting a school record with a time of 47.59.
The 6-3, 180-pound Price projects as a wide receiver/athlete at the college level. His junior year Hudl highlights include multiple electric plays and long breakaways.
He has been on Campbell’s radar for a long time. He camped with the Camels in June 2024 and received an offer from the Buies Creek FCS school last summer. Price attended Campbell’s home opener in the fall against Stony Brook and attended the spring game in late March.
Mallard Creek finished 10-3 last season and won two state playoff games before falling to Hough. The Charlotte Observer lists Mallard Creek fourth in its early Sweet 16 football ranking, noting returning starters like Price and a strong batch of young talent. Mallard is behind only Providence Day, Hough and defending 3A state champion West Charlotte in the Observer’s pre-summer power poll.
Price started his football career at North Mecklenburg High before transferring to Mallard Creek for the 2024 season.
