Doug Socha took over as head coach of the Lenoir-Rhyne Bears heading into the 2024 season. He directed the Bears to a 10-3 record and a Division II playoff appearance in his first year with the program. Socha came to Lenoir-Rhyne after a successful stint at Keiser University, where he posted a 55-15 record and a 2023 NAIA national championship.

Helen and Leonard Moretz Stadium has been the Bears’ football home since the 1920s. It was named after Helen and Leonard Moretz, two strong supporters of the school, in 1989. The stadium has a capacity of 7,200, the largest in the South Atlantic Conference.
Has Lenoir-Rhyne ever won a national championship in football?
The Lenoir-Rhyne Bears played in the NAIA championship game in the 1959, 1960 and 1962. The team, coached by Clarence Stasavich, won the 1960 NAIA title, beating Humboldt State 15-14 to complete a perfect 12-0 season. Lenoir-Rhyne under coach Mike Houston advanced to the NCAA Division II championship game in 2013, falling to Northwest Missouri State 43-28. Mike Jacobs coached the Bears to the NCAA Division II semifinals in 2023, winning 13 total games.
