Lenoir-Rhyne football will head to Tusculum for SAC title game

Bears-Pioneers will kick off at 4 p.m. in Greeneville, Tenn.

ROCK HILL, S.C. –Tusculum won the 2023 South Atlantic Conference Football Mountain Division title and Lenoir-Rhyne took home the 2023 SAC Football Piedmont Division title. As the winners of each division, the Pioneers and Bears will meet in the SAC Football Championship game on Saturday, Nov. 11.

The Pioneers earned a 6-2 SAC record, while Lenoir-Rhyne had a 7-1 record in conference. Tusculum finished tied with Mars Hill at the top of the Mountain Division. The Pioneers won the tiebreaker by virtue of its 29-27 double-overtime win against the Lions on Nov. 4.

Lenoir-Rhyne and Limestone both had 7-1 records and finished at the top of the Piedmont Division. The Bears won the tiebreaker by virtue of a 31-28 win over the Saints on Oct. 7. 

The SAC Championship will be played at Tusculum. The host site for the championship was pre-determined prior to the start of the season. In even years the Piedmont Division will host and in odd years the Mountain Division will host.

Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Tusculum.

In addition to the 2023 SAC Football Championship game, the remaining 10 teams will play cross-division games. The final week of SAC football schedule is as follows:

SAC Football: Saturday, Nov. 11

  • Championship Game – Lenoir-Rhyne at Tusculum 4 p.m.
  • Wingate at UVA Wise 12 p.m.
  • Limestone at Emory & Henry 1 p.m.
  • Catawba at Carson-Newman 1 p.m.
  • Newberry at Mars Hill 1 p.m.
  • Barton at Erskine 1 p.m.
