The first recognized HBCU football game was played on Dec. 27, 1892 on Livingstone College’s snowy front lawn in Salisbury. Livingstone played what was then known as Biddle College (now Johnson C. Smith University). The annual Livingstone vs. Johnson C. Smith football match-up is now known as the Commemorative Classic. Livingstone won the 132nd Commemorative Classic by a 15-10 score in November 2024.
