Louisburg College football’s run to the NJCAA Division III junior college national championship game yielded a host of individual honors. Ten Hurricanes earned spots on the NJCAA DIII Football All-America Team, announced this week.
Tight end Jabari Rone, offensive lineman Corey Williams, linebacker Letraskey Pressley and defensive back Joanue Morten-Berry garnered first-team recognition. Running back Mekiaun Davis, defensive lineman Keaton Braddock, defensive back Kamal Thames and return specialist Markiss Nelson made the second-team.
Quarterback Dylan Trevillian and offensive lineman Gabriel Coveny earned honorable mention status.
Rone led Louisburg with 27 catches for 327 yards and five touchdowns. Williams and Coveny helped pave the way for an offense that averaged 358.1 yards per game (168 rushing, 190.1 passing). Pressley was the top tackler for the ‘Canes with 61 total stops and 12.5 sacks. Morten-Berry intercepted three passes and broke up seven more.
Davis paced a balanced rushing attack, which saw 12 players earn positive yardage, with 323 yards and one touchdown. Braddock finished with 6.5 sacks, 7.5 tackles-for-loss and two fumble recoveries. Thames had two interceptions and 10 pass break-ups. Trevillian completed 136 passes for 1,952 yards and 18 touchdowns.
Louisburg finished the season 8-3. A No. 2 final ranking in the NJCAA Division III poll put the Hurricanes in the Red Grange Bowl, the junior college national championship game. Louisburg fell to defending champ College of DuPage but charted new territory this season by advancing to the title contest.
The Hurricanes are the only junior college program in North Carolina. They are coached by Quinderra Spellman.
