Louisburg College ready for 2024 JUCO season

Hurricanes will play four home games this fall as well as two exhibitions against four-year schools

North Carolina’s lone junior college football program has posted its 2024 schedule.

The Louisburg Hurricanes will play a 10-game slate this season, along with a pair of exhibitions in August against North Carolina four-year programs.

The ‘Canes will scrimmage at St. Andrews on Monday, Aug. 19 and at Guilford on Sunday, Aug. 25 before kicking off the regular season Aug. 31 against the visiting Georgia Warhawks, a post-graduate program from Lawrenceville, Ga.

Louisburg will play four games in September and four more in October before wrapping things up with a final game in early November. Home contests will come Sept. 14 against Hocking College, Sept. 21 against Sussex County Community College and Oct. 19 against Jireh Prep.

Even though Louisburg has no JUCO rival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes will stay in state with a road trip on Oct. 27, traveling to face Brevard’s JV team. Other Road trips against foes from Pennsylvania and Georgia will be played in more central locations, like Virginia and South Carolina, saving on travel expenses.

The Hurricanes recorded a 5-4 record a year ago. The ‘Canes had a standout defensive unit, allowing only 158 yards and 15.4 points per game. Louisburg recorded 64 sacks, setting an NJCAA record with its 7.1 sacks-per-game average.

But the unique program is focused on more than wins, losses and stats. The team has developed a reputation for signing and developing talent, then sending them on to various levels of four-year college football.

Assistant coach Jonathan Hodges posted a video on social media this week touting former Hurricanes who have continued their football careers at places like NC State, East Carolina, North Carolina Central, Charlotte, Old Dominion, Central Michigan, Hawaii, Marshall, Hampton and Mercer.

Quinderra Spellman is set to return as head coach this season. Spellman played at North Carolina Wesleyan in the mid-2000s and later served as an assistant coach with the Battling Bishops before taking over in Franklin County.
