Mallard Creek High School cornerback Nassor Ashenafi has verbally committed to join Western Carolina’s 2025 recruiting class. He announced his pledge on social media earlier this week.

Ashenafi (5-9, 160) transferred to Mallard Creek from Archbishop Carroll in Washington, DC, ahead of the 2023 season. He contributed to the Mavericks’ 7-5 season a year ago with strong defensive play, as well as a kick returner and punt returner. His highlights included a pair of pick-sixes against Independence last August.

Mallard Creek is off to a 3-1 start this season. The team has not updated stats on its MaxPreps.com page since game one.

Ashenafi attended a camp at Western Carolina over the summer. He reportedly ran the 40-yard dash in 4.34 seconds. According to 247Sports, Ashenafi also held an offer from Lenoir-Rhyne.

Mallard Creek’s next opponent is Hopewell, also 3-1. That game has been moved to Saturday due to the effects of Hurricane Helene. Western Carolina is off this weekend.
