Sometimes recruiting rankings and stars mean nothing.

Coming into April, Marvin Ridge junior wideout Alex Voss didn’t appear on any 2026 North Carolina statewide rankings published by major outlets like 247Sports, Rivals, On3 or ESPN.

Yet Voss caught the attention of one ACC program. And last week, the 6-4, 200-pound wideout accepted an offer to be a part of Boston College’s 2026 recruiting class.

The Eagles were the first “Power Four” school to extend an offer to Voss. That came in mid-March.

Voss caught 45 passes for 696 yards at Marvin Ridge last season. He scored seven touchdowns and averaged 15.5 yards per reception.

Scouts believe Voss’ size and solid route running could create mismatches if he’s used as a tight end. Last season was his first on the Marvin Ridge varsity squad, but he made an instant impact for the Mavericks.

Voss also held offers from East Carolina, Gardner-Webb and Elon among in-state schools, as well as James Madison, Miami (OH), Princeton and Cornell out-of-state. He’s a 4.0 student and also plays on the Marvin Ridge basketball team.

And yes, he’s getting on the national recruiting radars now. 247Sports’ latest North Carolina 2026 rankings, published within the past week, list him at No. 46. He’s also now considered a three-star prospect by 247Sports.

Boston College has done a solid job mining the Old North State for football talent. The Eagles currently list six players with North Carolina hometowns on their 2025 spring roster.

Former Campbell standout wide receiver VJ Wilkins (Pfafftown | Reagan HS) transferred to BC over the winter. Other Boston College players with North Carolina ties include defensive end Jayden Fry (Raleigh | Rolesville HS), linebacker Bryce Steele (Raleigh | Millbrook HS), wide receiver Johnathan Montague Jr. (Zebulon | Clayton HS), defensive back Omarion Davis (Charlotte), running back Turbo Richard (Hickory | Hickory HS).
