Sophomore wide receiver Christian Drumgoole set new North Carolina Wesleyan school records Saturday night and put himself among the national leaders in receiving yards.

Drumgoole, from Dinwiddie, Va., caught an amazing 18 passes from quarterback Chaz Hirschman in the Battling Bishops’ 28-24 loss to Ferrum. His receptions covered 277 yards. He scored a touchdown in each half, one covering 48 yards and the other 28 yards.

Drumgoole set the new school best in single-game receptions and single-game receiving yards. Both numbers rank first across North Carolina at any level of play for the 2024 season. Only one other receiver from an Old North State college team, Brevard’s Zackary Orr, has enjoyed a 200-yard receiving day thus far.

The USA South Athletic Conference named Drumgoole its Offensive Player of the Week. Orr was nominated for the honor.

Drumgoole ranks second across NCAA Division III in total receiving yards for the season (23 catches, 343 yards), trailing only Alfred’s Dion Anderson (18 catches, 411 yards).

Brevard’s Orr ranks second in D3 in receiving yards per game (205.0), while Drumgoole is third nationally in that category (171.5).

North Carolina Wesleyan (0-2) will play at home this Saturday, hosting USA South Athletic Conference favorite Huntingdon at noon.
