✅ NC D2 Football Wrap-Up
Biggest Win of the Day
A lot to choose from this week! All four North Carolina SAC teams won – Lenoir-Rhyne, Mars Hill, Wingate and Catawba. Johnson C. Smith and Winston-Salem State engineered pleasing CIAA triumphs.
But we’ll give this slot to UNC Pembroke. The Braves felled 16th ranked Delta State, rallying from a 21-10 deficit in the final 10:30. UNCP earned only its second-ever win over a ranked team in program history.
Standout Performance
The stat sheet might not tell the full story, but UNCP quarterback Tre Robinson delivered when it mattered most. He scored two fourth-quarter rushing touchdowns (10 and 3 yards) and threw for another score earlier, sparking the Braves’ comeback.
Upset of the Day
Elizabeth City State nearly pulled off the shocker of the season, leading unbeaten JCSU into the fourth quarter before falling late. The true upset belonged to Mars Hill, which toppled a top-25 Carson-Newman team in overtime. Special credit to Kevin Barnette — a longtime Lions assistant who earned his first victory as head coach in dramatic fashion.
