Dominant performance gives UNC, Belichick first ACC win

We’re starting to believe Bill Belichick when he says his UNC team is getting better.

Baby steps, of course, but the Tar Heels really have shown notable improvements since the dreadful loss to Clemson set off a firestorm of criticism a few weeks back. The positive gains finally paid off on the scoreboard Friday night in the form of a 27-10 win at Syracuse.

Aside from giving up an early scoop-and-score touchdown, the Heels controlled this contest completely. UNC outgained Syracuse 425-147 — with 209 of its yards coming with a punishing ground game.

Former Jacksonville High running back Demon June had a productive night. The true freshman rushed for 101 yards and a touchdown, while also catching a 72-yard TD pass from Gio Lopez. UNC improved to 3-5 and gave Belichick his first ACC win.
