The grand opening of the 2025 North Carolina high school football season is still a week away for most teams, but a select group of private schools and eight-man programs will take the field this weekend, Aug. 15–16.
Headlining the “Week Zero” slate is Arendell Parrott Academy of Kinston, which will play in the Black Bear Brawl in Gatlinburg, TN, on Saturday. The Patriots draw Evangel Christian, an eight-man powerhouse riding a 38-game win streak. Parrott made the trip last year as well, falling 38–19 to Evangel.
Many games involving North Carolina squads this week will be out-of-state road matchups. Charlotte Country Day visits Savannah Country Day in Georgia for example, while Halifax Academy and St. David’s will head north to face Virginia opponents.
