We have arrived at Week 9 of the North Carolina high school football season.

Three weeks remain in the North Carolina high school football regular season, and playoff races are heating up across every corner of the state. Powerhouses like Grimsley, Hough and Providence Day continue to lead statewide rankings, while smaller-school programs such as Tarboro, Pender and Bear Grass Charter are still unbeaten as October rolls on.

Here’s a look at how the top teams stack up heading into Week 9 — including a look at popular statewide rankings, a list of undefeated programs by classification, six games to watch (all available on the NFHS Network), and key postseason dates to circle.

Cleveland puts its 59-game regular-season winning streak on the line against a dangerous Southeast Raleigh squad (6-2). The Rams haven’t lost a regular-season game since 2019.

Lincolnton has won seven straight, including a dramatic 35-34 overtime victory over Shelby last Friday. The Wolves (3A) meet 4A Stuart Cramer (5-2) with Southern Piedmont title hopes on the line.

Mallard Creek at Independence
Two of Charlotte’s most tradition-rich programs collide. Both sit 5-2 and are ranked in the statewide top 20 by both MaxPreps and HighSchoolOT.
