Providence Day School, which has won private schools state championships in three out of the past four seasons, has released its 2025 football schedule.

The Chargers, who compete in the N.C. Independent Schools Athletic Association (NCISAA), will face a challenging 10-game slate that includes an elite Pennsylvania Catholic program and three non-conference games against traditional public school powers from our state.

Providence Day will open Friday, Aug. 22 at home against visiting Roman Catholic from Philadelphia. Roman Catholic won 12 games a year ago and finished as the runner-up in the PIAA 5A playoffs – losing the championship game in overtime.

Providence Day will then visit another state runner-up the following week, traveling to Rolesville on Friday, Aug. 29. The Rams from Wake County went 14-2 a year ago, losing only to Grimsley in the regular season and again in the 4A title game in Chapel Hill.

The schedule shifts to local opposition for the following two weeks, with a home game against Charlotte Catholic (9-3 in 2024) and a road trip to Butler (4-7).

From there, Providence will transition to NCISAA action. The Chargers’ first opponent will bring a rematch of last year’s Division I state title game against Rabun Gap. The Eagles ended Providence Day’s three-year run as state champs with a 42-39 triumph last November.

This meeting will be Sept. 19 on the Chargers’ home turf.

The rest of Providence Day’s schedule includes road games against Cannon and Charlotte Christian and home contests against Christ School, Charlotte Latin and Charlotte Country Day.

NCISAA Division I football features 10 schools. Providence Day is in the Big South with Charlotte Christian, Charlotte Country Day and Charlotte Latin. The rest of the division includes Rabun Gap, which is located in Georgia, as well as Cannon/Concord Academy, Christ School, Metrolina Christian Academy, North Raleigh Christian Academy and Ravenscroft.

Providence Day is coached by Chad Grier. The Chargers won NCISAA state titles in 2021, 2022 and 2023.

The team posted a 9-3 overall record a year ago and spent plenty of time in national headlines thanks to highly touted offensive line recruit David Sanders Jr. Outlets like 247Sports, Rivals and On3 ranked Sanders among the best Class of 2025 prospects in the nation. He’s long been considered the consensus No. 1 recruit from North Carolina.

Pursued by dozens of top-level FBS programs, Sanders signed with Tennessee in December and is already on campus in Knoxville.

Rising senior Leo Delaney, another offensive line standout, is ranked as the No. 8 prospect from the North Carolina class of 2026 in our NC Football News composite player rankings (view here). Teammate Gordan Sellars, a rising senior wide receiver, ranks No. 10.

Quarterback Zaid Lott, the No. 34 prospect in our composite rankings, has already committed to North Carolina and coach Bill Belichick.
