Millbrook linebacker Quinton Cypher, one of the top defensive players in North Carolina’s Class of 2027, has committed to Ohio State. He announced his pledge to join the 2024 national champions on Friday, Dec. 19.

Cypher picked Ohio State from an offer list of two dozen Division I programs. He also strongly considered Alabama, Georgia and Miami.

“I am choosing Ohio State because of the coaching staff for sure,” Cypher told 247Sports about his commitment. “I love the linebacker culture and coaches. That really won me over, how they have been performing and playing the last few years.”

Cypher is coming off a stellar junior high school season, helping lead Millbrook to its first-ever state championship game appearance. The Wildcats finished 13-1, falling to Hough in the 8A title game.

Recruiting News & Nuggets

Cypher received his first Division I offer from Duke in June 2024 heading into his sophomore season. He has since accumulated two dozen Power 4 offers and has ascended to become one of the most sought after defensive prospects from North Carolina’s 2027 class.

Cypher narrowed his list down to four schools in mid-December – Alabama, Georgia, Ohio State and Miami. He took unofficial visits to all four during the 2025 season, as well as Duke and Clemson. He made two trips to Columbus, Ohio to see the Buckeyes up close.

247Sports gave a crystal ball prediction to Ohio State in the month leading up to Cypher’s commitment.

“What puts Georgia and Ohio State at the top are the type of programs they are,” Cypher told On3. “They have great history with great coaches and great cultures. Year in and year out, they are national championship teams. They are constantly in the mix, and both are schools I could see myself playing for. Georgia was the first SEC school to offer me and both have been recruiting me extremely hard.”
