UNC Pembroke’s final season as a Mountain East Conference member will feature a bevy of road games in September and October.
The Braves, who are set to add their football program to Conference Carolinas in 2025, will play five of their first seven games in visiting stadiums, including four in a row after the home opener vs. Wingate on Aug. 31.
The Mountain East will use a nine-game conference schedule this season. Five of UNC Pembroke’s league games will be on the road — at Charleston (Sept. 21), Glenville (Sept. 28), Wheeling (Oct. 5), Fairmont State (Oct. 19) and Concord (Nov. 16).
The good news is that once the schedule reaches mid-October, the Braves will get four chances to shine in front of home fans — Oct. 12 (West Liberty), Oct. 26 (West Virginia State), Nov. 2 (West Virginia Wesleyan) and Nov. 9 (Frostburg State).
UNC Pembroke finished a solid 7-3 record last season in coach Mark Hall’s debut as head of the program. The Braves ended on a four-game win streak, knocking off Fairmont State (49-7), West Virginia Wesleyan (56-0), Glenville State (49-0) and Concord (68-21) in convincing fashion.
UNC Pembroke went 5-1 at home in Grace P. Johnson Stadium.
Both of UNC Pembroke’s non-conference games could be dandies. The Braves host Wingate (8-3 in 2023) and then travel to Fayetteville State in week two. Fayetteville State won all eight of its CIAA regular season games last season. UNCP edged the Broncos in early September, 19-17.
The Braves will conclude spring drills this week and will host its spring game on Thursday, April 11 at 6 p.m.
