A tight end named “Tex” who calls North Carolina home will play college football in Boston in 2026. William “Tex” Vaughn, a rising senior at Kings Mountain High School, committed to Boston College on Saturday, per his social media.

Vaughn is considered the No. 26 prospect in the state’s Class of 2026, per our NC Football News composite rankings. He’s listed as the No. 28 prospect in the state by 247Sports and the No. 31 tight end nationally.

Vaughn, a first-team all-conference pick in 2024, made 45 catches for 994 yards and nine touchdowns. Kings Mountain finished 9-3 overall, 6-1 in the Big South 3A Conference for coach Strait Herron.

Vaughn (6-4, 231) held roughly two dozen offers, including from all seven of North Carolina’s FBS programs – Appalachian State, Charlotte, Duke, East Carolina, NC State, North Carolina and Wake Forest. Pundits at 247Sports considered Virginia Tech and South Carolina among his favorites. Louisville, Ole Miss, Pitt, West Virginia and Michigan State also were among the notable programs extending offers.

“I chose Boston College because when I go up there it feels like home and I feel welcomed,” Vaughn told Eagle Insider, a 247Sports site devoted to BC football. “I love the coaching staff up there I just feel like it was the best move for me to make for me and my family. I also chose them Boston College bcause they have one top business programs in the country and that’s what I want to major in.”

Vaughn becomes the second 2026 North Carolina prospect to commit to Boston College, now led by former NFL coach Bill O’Brien. He joins wide receiver Alex Voss (Waxhaw | Marvin Ridge HS), who committed to the Eagles in April.

Boston College’s 2026 class is ranked 20th nationally by 247Sports, as of May 14, with 13 total commits.
