Three players from the Winston-Salem State University football team have earned Food Lion Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Football Players of the Week honors for week three, announced Monday afternoon.
Camar Kyle was named Defensive Lineman of the Week, while teammate Justin Fleming was named Defensive Back of the Week, and Daylin Lee earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Kyle, a junior from Raleigh, was named Defensive Lineman of the Week after helping the Rams secure a 24-7 victory over ECSU last Saturday. He had one quarterback hurry, four tackles (2 solo), and two assists. He also recorded 2.5 tackles for loss for five yards, and he recorded 2.0 sacks for five yards.
Fleming, a junior from Greensboro, was named Defensive Back being impactful in every way possible. He had seven tackles (5 solo), two assists, 2.5 tackles for loss for 10 yards. He also had 2.0 sacks for 9 yards. He also had a forced fumble and blocked a punt.
Freshman quarterback Daylin Lee was named Rookie of the Week after he was 12-for-23 on passing for 132 yards. He also had one touchdown and no interceptions.
Other winners include Stever Williams (Virginia State) being named Quarterback of the Week, Rashard Jackson (Virginia Union) being named Offensive Back, Quinzel Lockhart (Elizabeth City State) being named Receiver of the Week, Bruno Onwuazor (VSU) being named Offensive Lineman, Kamaal McMillian (Lincoln PA) being named Linebacker of the Week and Matthew Ward (VSU) being named Special Team Player of the Week.
The Rams will be back in action on Saturday, September 23 hosting Bluefield State at 6 p.m.
