Guilford suffers first loss; Greensboro, NC Wesleyan, Methodist also fall

Guilford College suffered its first defeat of the season Saturday, dropping a 40-14 decision at Huntingdon in Alabama.

Huntingdon raced out to a 31-0 lead by early in the third quarter. JuJu Rice got Guilford on the board, catching a short TD throw from Bailey Baker. Malik Woodward scored with six seconds to go on a 59-yard rush. Burke Nettles kicked both PATs.

Guilford dropped to 2-1 with the decision. The Quakers were outgained 469-191.

Hampden-Sydney 58, Greensboro 28

Senior quarterback Andrew Puccinelli passed for three touchdowns and ran for another touchdown to lead Hampden-Sydney to a non-conference football road win over the Pride. Senior All-American safety Will Pickren added a fumble return for a touchdown, along with a blocked punt, while sophomore placekicker Elijah Swett (from Matthews, NC) contributed two field goals and four PAT kicks. The visiting Tigers (2-1) led 9-0 after one quarter, 36-7 at halftime, and 49-14 after three quarters en route to their victory against the host Pride (0-3).

Washington & Lee 54, Methodist 14

Wade Thomas caught a 23-yard touchdown pass from Brandon Bullins, and Keyshaun Pete rushed for a 1-yard touchdown for the Monarchs, who dropped to 0-3 with the loss.

Washington & Lee built a 27-14 halftime lead and outscore Methodist 27-0 after the break.

Bridgewater 41, NC Wesleyan 12

The Battling Bishops (0-3) kept Bridgewater off the board in the first and third quarters but struggled during the second and fourth periods.

Keilan Francies caught a 2-yard TD pass from Chaz Hirschman with 7:13 to play in the second quarter to pull NC Wesleyan within 14-6. A 45-yard Leopoldo Cardelli-to-Christian Drumgoole pass play made the score 21-12 Bridgewater early in the third.

But Bridgewater (2-1) tacked on three more scores to win going away.
