Elon defensive end Kahmari Brown, one of the most disruptive young defenders in FCS football, intends to enter the NCAA transfer portal, per multiple reports Monday morning.

Brown has been a game-changing presence for the Phoenix since the moment he arrived on campus from White Oak High School in Jacksonville. In two seasons at Elon, Brown has totaled 99 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks, four forced fumbles and one pass breakup, developing into the most feared edge rusher in the CAA. This fall he led the conference with 12 sacks, setting a new single-season program record.

In 2024, he earned Freshman All-American honors from FCS Football Central, Stats Perform and Phil Steele after posting 40 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks. His current Elon profile page lists him at 6-2, 220 pounds.

Brown’s announcement comes just two days after he delivered one of the best defensive performances of the season — 3.0 tackles for loss, 2.5 sacks and two forced fumbles in Elon’s 55-17 win over North Carolina A&T. He was named CAA Defensive Player of the Week for that effort, with news of that honor breaking on social media literally at the same recruiting sites were posting about Brown’s intention to seek a transfer.

Brown produced a monster senior year in high school at White Oak with 111 tackles, 25 TFLs, six sacks, five forced fumbles, a blocked punt and a blocked field goal — and quickly proved his impact would translate at the college level. Elon won 12 games the past two years.

While the NCAA transfer portal does not officially open for FBS and FCS players until January 2, many players are announcing their intentions early to position themselves ahead of the recruiting rush.
