FCS standouts VJ Wilkins (Campbell) and Jaylen Bowden (NCCU) transferring to ‘Power Four’ programs

Campbell football transfer VJ Wilkins will play in the ACC next season, while North Carolina Central transfer Jaylen Brown will suit up in the Big Ten. Davidson tight end Christian Berry, meanwhile, has pledged to a MAC program.

With the transfer portal now open, here are updates on players leaving North Carolina FCS programs to head to the FBS ranks.

Electric kick-returner, wide receiver VJ Wilkins commits to Boston College

Former Campbell wide receiver VJ “Rocket” Wilkins, a 2023 Freshman All-American, has committed to Boston College, according to ESPN and SI.com.

Wilkins announced that he was entering the portal in late November after the Camels’ season concluded. The Pfafftown product, who played at Reagan High School, visited Boston College over the weekend, according to his social media.

Wilkins made 38 catches for 510 yards and six touchdowns this past season for Campbell, which finished 3-9. He also recorded 320 yards on kickoff returns. Last season, Wilkins finished with 52 catches for 546 yards and four scores. He made his name as a kick-return specialist also, ranking ninth in return yards (616).

Boston College has lost three wide receivers to the transfer portal, according to SI.com. Wilkins also reported offers from UTEP, FAU and James Madison, per his social media.

North Carolina Central transfer Jaylen Bowden picks Minnesota

Jaylen Bowden, who started 10 games for NCCU in 2024, will suit up for Minnesota in 2025. Bowden picked off a pass, broke up seven more and did not allow a touchdown against him. He finished with 19 tackles.

Bowden had received offers from Wake Forest, James Madison, Old Dominion, Miami (OH) and Florida Atlantic, according to 247Sports.

Bowden came to NC Central as part of its 2023 recruiting class. He was a standout at Mallard Creek High in Charlotte.

Davidson transfer Christian Berry commits to Kent State

Tight end Christian Berry, who earned all-conference honors in the Pioneer Football League in 2023, will depart from Davidson after three seasons. He played in every game for the Wildcats from 2022-24.

Berry made four receptions this past season with one touchdown. He has four career touchdowns over three seasons.
