With its 2025 season debut just two weeks away, Charlotte football announced plans to play Wofford and Western Carolina in future openers.
The 49ers will host Wofford on Sept. 1, 2029 and will entertain Western Carolina on Aug. 31, 2030. Charlotte has never played either school in football before. Both Wofford and WCU compete in the Southern Conference, an FCS league.
The 49ers have much of their non-conference schedule filled out through 2030. This year’s non-league slate includes games against Appalachian State in the Duke’s Mayo Classic on Aug. 29, home dates against North Carolina (Sept. 6) and Monmouth (Sept. 13) and a late-season road trip to SEC power Georgia (Nov. 22).
Appalachian State will be a fixture on the Niners’ schedule every season through 2030. The 49ers also will play games against in-state foes Elon and NC State.
Charlotte represents the third American Athletic Conference opponent for Western Carolina in its history. The Catamounts have played multiple games against East Carolina and have made one trip to play USF.
WCU will play four in-state opponents this season as part of its non-conference schedule – Gardner-Webb (Aug. 30), at Wake Forest (Sept. 6), Elon (Sept. 13) and at Campbell (Sept. 27).
