North Carolina Central football is peaking at just the right time. The Eagles wrapped up their non-conference slate in emphatic fashion Saturday, hammering Florida A&M 45-7 in Tallahassee to claim their fourth straight victory and improve to 5-2 overall.
Quarterback Walker Harris threw for 278 yards and two touchdowns, spreading the ball to eight receivers, while Chris Mosley logged his fourth 100-yard rushing game of the year with 131 yards and a score.
Tight end Rodney Lesane opened the day with a 13-yard touchdown catch, and defensive back Eric Adams added a 33-yard pick-six that helped the Eagles race to a 28-0 halftime lead.
NCCU’s defense delivered its sharpest outing of the season, limiting the Rattlers to 197 total yards and forcing three interceptions. It marked the first time since 2023 that the Eagles held an opponent under 200 yards of offense.
Saturday’s win capped a 4-1 run through non-conference play against FCS opponents, including two decisive victories over SWAC foes (Southern and Florida A&M). The only FCS loss came to New Hampshire on Aug. 30.
The Eagles have now scored at least 45 points in four straight contests and have recorded at least 450 yards of total offense in those games. NCCU picked up 486 yards on Saturday.
Chance Peterson made eight catches for 104 yards. Refeno Vangates caught a TD pass from Harris. Arthur Rodgers scored on a short run. Harris added another rushing score, while Kaleb Robison kicked a 38-yard field goal to complete the scoring. Mosley’s TD run covered 50 yards in the second half.
After a bye week, NCCU returns home to open MEAC play Oct. 25 vs. Delaware State at O’Kelly-Riddick Stadium. With confidence and rhythm on both sides of the ball, Trei Oliver’s Eagles look ready to make another push toward a MEAC title and berth in the Celebration Bowl.
