It doesn’t seem like all that long ago we were typing in the first college football schedules of 2025 amid winter temperatures and conjuring up way-too-early rankings and predictions.
Now here we are, ready to turn back the clocks this weekend, with the sunset of the 2025 North Carolina college football season just weeks away. Where did the time go?
If you’re Wake Forest, there was just enough time to get off a 50-yard game-winning field goal on Saturday to beat SMU. If you’re the UNC Tar Heels, time wasn’t the issue this past weekend — it was distance, as in a mere inch between the ball and the pylon on a potential game-winning two-point conversion against Virginia.
North Carolina A&T had time and distance for Elijah Kennedy to return two fourth-quarter kicks for touchdowns in a comeback win over Campbell. Lenoir-Rhyne, meanwhile, didn’t need much time at all — returning the opening kickoff for a touchdown to spark a 45-0 rout of Mars Hill. That was one of nine lopsided D2 games involving our state, with eight won by teams from North Carolina.
Yes, the leaves are turning, the temps are dropping again and the 2025 season is winding down. But there’s still time for statement wins, conference championship pursuits, playoff drives and rivalry fireworks — with another weekend to remember across North Carolina’s college football landscape on deck this Friday and Saturday.
Here’s the full slate of games for Week 10, along with a six high-stakes matchups we’re watching closely:

North Carolina at Syracuse
Friday, Oct. 31 | 7:30 p.m.
A Halloween showdown in the Dome – will it be tricks or treats for the Tar Heels? Please no more fumbles at the goal line.
Duke at Clemson
Saturday, Nov. 1 | 12 p.m.
The Blue Devils had the Tigers number in the 2023 season opener. Clemson is there for taking this year, too, if Duke doesn’t beat itself like against Georgia Tech (speaking of fumbles near the goal line).
Johnson C. Smith at Fayetteville State | Saturday, Nov. 1 | 1 p.m.
A spot in the CIAA championship game could be at stake. Fayetteville State derailed the Golden Bulls’ conference title quest in this spot last year.
Lenoir-Rhyne at Wingate
Saturday, Nov. 1 | 3 p.m.
The state’s most dominant D2 teams the past two seasons clash for bragging rights, potential playoff positioning.
Western Carolina at Chattanooga
Saturday, Nov. 1 | 4 p.m.
The Catamounts, taking aim at their first Southern Conference title ever, go for their sixth win in a row in 2025. What kind of magic can WCU QB Taron Dickens conjure up this week?
Wake Forest at Florida State
Saturday, Nov. 1 | 7:30 p.m.
Oregon State fired its coach after a loss to the Deacs a few weeks ago. Will the Seminoles be next if Wake prevails here?
